Car insurance is available to all residents of Winnipeg and Manitoba through the Manitoba Public Insurance Corporation (MPI). MPI is a government agency which provides all basic car insurance and vehicle insurance, commonly known as Autopac. Autopac provides
Personal injury protection for injury or death caused by an automobile
Coverage for accidental damage to most registered vehicles
Coverage for claims made against you if your registered vehicle injures other people elsewhere in Canada or the United States or damages other people’s property anywhere in Canada or the United States
Optional extension coverage for deductible, liability and loss of use
Off-road vehicle extension coverage
New car or leased vehicle protection.
MPI also offers Rental Car Insurance, available to Winnipeg and Manitoba residents who are leasing a vehicle in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada or the United States. This insurance provides up to $5,000,000.00 coverage for claims others may make against you, $100,000.00 coverage for damages to vehicles leased outside of Manitoba and $100.00 deductible. All coverages are in Canadian dollars.

Remember, however, if you require a picture for your Driver Licence you will need to do your renewal in person.
